Expert discussion Hybrid steel lightweight construction - Herbstweg residential building with Jürg Graser and Beda Troxler, Graser Troxler Architekten, Patric Fischli-Boson, Büeler Fischli Bauingenieure, Bernhard von Mühlenen, AM Suisse, Simon Rutz, Wohlgensinger Holzbau
"How can we build in a material-efficient and circular way?" is a question that has recently been occupying us on a daily basis. Graser Troxler Architects answer it with a hybrid lightweight construction using the materials steel, wood and concrete. Steel beams and columns, unusual for residential construction, allow for a prefabricated, lightweight and flexible structure that is predestined for reuse due to its durability and detachable planned connections. The classical master builder works are reduced to a minimum. Only the basement, firewall and superimposed concrete of the composite sheet metal floors are made of in-situ concrete. Wooden elements form a compact façade structure - attached directly to the steel structure by means of well thought-out infill panels. Using the existing in a different way leads here to new constructive solutions and a surprising atmosphere for living.
